Join us (Twin City Chapter Minnesota Master Naturalists) for an exploration of the many ways that a watershed district has “greened” its headquarters. The Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District office in Little Canada has a vegetated roof, rain gardens and a pervious parking lot. We will have a guided tour of the property and then car-caravan to one of their unique projects on Phalen Lake. Much of the shoreline at the lake has been restored and native prairie plants as well as wetland plants are thriving in what was once a wasteland.
The Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District is a special purpose governmental unit responsible for protecting the water resources of the District, located in the eastern portion of Ramsey County and the western edge of Washington County. The District was established in 1975 under the Minnesota Watershed District Act, and covers approximately 56 sq. miles that ultimately drain into the Mississippi River.
